True. The characters development is so good. We saw Ma-kun first as a r4pist and intimidating character. But later we see him doing chores, cleaning, cooking, watching Hitoshi playing game, playing games with Hitoshi, accompanying Hitoshi to meet the supposed to be sick mother, doing illegal stuff to help Hitoshi, compromising with Hitoshi, respecting Hitoshi's boundaries, and in later chapter cosplaying as Pikachu for Hitoshi. Those are his "redemption" route.
Meanwhile Hitoshi also grows to be better. He usually doesn't open up but he's to Ma-kun. He gains composure little by little after his mother case. He asks for help from non authority figure, non police. Remember he rejected his classmate offer about notes for the lecture? Or when the school bully harassed him at his work? In chapter 8 he finally said, "Save me" to someone else.
Their relationship begins with non con but chapters by chapters we can see they grow better together. And if I'm not mistaken grow better together is a recipe for a healthy relationship.

Found my new spirit creature
Also, that was seriously the best character development I’ve ever seen. And I appreciate them not being super lovey dovey, but more comfortable with each other than anything.
