Winter break comes along and zhiyu confesses to shixian saying that he'll miss him, to which shixian replies that he likes him too and will come over often. He promises to always be there every morning with breakfast when zhiyu wakes up and looks out of his window to the street. But the next day shixian doesn't appear and this goes on for the whole break with no news of shixian. School reopens and shixian is absent so zhiyu asks shixians group of friends about his whereabouts only to get beaten up for stealing shixian away from them previously. Zhiyu then hears from his teacher that shixian has dropped out of school. He spends the days moping and confused, and one day meets CC (2nd lead). Meanwhile we are shown shixian in a hospital in serious condition and being unable to access his phone. CC likes zhiyu and confesses to him regularly but zhiyu doesn't waver as his heart still longs for shixian. One day, as he is with CC, Zhiyu tosses the phone zhixian got from him into the river but CC immediately jumps in to retrieve it. He finally reciprocates CC's feelings. But on the same day zhiyu receives a letter from shixian asking him to meet at a train station. Shixian lies and says that he's been living well and has made many friends as he doesn't want zhiyu to worry, while zhiyu also lies that he's been doing well when he was all but. Zhiyu also that he now has someone else whom he likes. Shixian feels heartbroken and also notices zhiyu has switched phones and comments that zhiyu has easily replaced him too. Shixian's train arrives and he heads off, but not before telling zhiyu that he's thankful for being able to see him while he is still around. Zhiyu panics but shixian is already in the train and smiles bitterly at him, then leaves. 10 years later, shixian wants to look for zhiyu and meet him once more before dying. CC and zhiyu are married and living together happily. CC sees shixians post about his first love and contacts him. He agrees to help pass on the message to zhiyu but of course feels conflicted as well. But he knows that shixian has a terminal illness and feels bad as it was somewhat because of him that zhiyu and shixian hid their respective truths from one another and both lost their first loves. He arranges for zhiyu to visit shixian, zhiyu feels reluctant at first as he feels that they already bid farewells at the train station 10 years ago, but CC tells him shixian is sick, so he agrees. Shixian is receiving treatment in germany, and staying at a street zhiyu once told him was where he wanted to live after retiring during their school days. Shixian is seriously ill and goes into episodes where he loses feeling and zones out, nurses then have to help him back to the bed and these spells can last for hours before he comes back to his senses. He has a book detailing his times with zhiyu and always requests the nurses to read them to him daily as he is afraid of forgetting zhiyu. When zhiyu arrives, the nurses recognize him from shixians journal and welcome him. Zhiyu meets shixian and they share an awkward and shy 'how are you' but shixian immediately has one of his episodes. He doesn't wake up for almost a week, during which zhiyu reads shixians book and feels regretful and that he has no right to eat or cry while shixian has been suffering by himself all this while. Shixian only has 2 more weeks to live. CC arrives and zhiyu runs into his arms crying. The next day shixian goes missing, and everyone is in a frenzy looking for him but then CC asks zhiyu to look out the window, and there shixian is, smiling and waving at him from the ground floor with breakfast just like he had promised to do all those years ago. They sit and eat on one of the benches and shixian confesses to zhiyu again, and asks if he is willing to be with him after winter passes (this strikes a chord as it was a winter that had separated them all those years ago). Zhiyu is crying but smiles and agrees.... though they both know shixian only has about a week left to live.

Their story ends here. Some people are unable to find love again after their first love, and in this case it was his love for zhiyu that gave shixian strength to go on. Zhiyu never knew the whole truth and hence was able to find a significant partner and live happily. I am sure zhiyu will never be the same after this incident and will need a lot of time to heal, but he will be in good hands as he has CC. CC could have chose to not pass on shixians message to zhiyu as it would only open old wounds for him, but he still did so to fulfil the wish of a dying man. He had promised to keep nothing from zhiyu and believed zhiyu would not sway. I wish things had been different - if shixian had told zhiyu the truth 10 years ago, zhiyu would no doubt have dropped everything to run to his side since he had barely gotten to know CC and their relationship had yet to really develop. Shixian could have had no regrets dying and had a less painful life. Zhiyu would not have to live with the guilt of being happy while shixian was suffering and the pain of knowing he had let down shixian, though it was never his fault. But still, it is reassuring to know that shixian would have passed on feeling content and that zhiyu has someone who loves him wholeheartedly
