After he failed to change the plot he's now in the phase of obssessed with not disturbing the plot/making sure the original plot happen.
He saved some people who are supposed to die in the original plot.. but as the consequence other people who are suppossed to live ended up dead instead.
Plus, in the novel he was molested/almost raped by southern soldiers, those soldiers told him that it was Yan He Qing's order. So he thought YHQ hate him. It was actually YHQ's uncle who ordered those soldiers, uncle purposely created the misunderstanding.
The MC is fond of YHQ but at this point he prefer to life peacefully in small village, stay out of YHQ's way, and just hoping the plot will continue as the original without causing him anymore grief.
The story is actually good/refreshing compared to other transmigration story. It's not easy to change the plot and there is no system who guide the MC.
On one side the MC's actions undoubtly changed some of the plot, and it's not easy to undo what the MC already done. For example the harem plot.. it have been irrevocably changed by the MC's actions.
On another side.. there are some fundamental plot points that can't be changed no matter what the MC do. For example the defeat of northern kingdom.. MC trying his best to be a great ruler and he implemented plans to defend against southern invasion/revenge. But all his efforts are futile. Natural disasters and other unexpected things happened to jeopardize his plans.

I agree. Until now XYA still thinks of YHQ as a friend at most so their future romantic relationship still has a long way to go. BUT this kinda makes his denseness even more believable because he really doesnt consider the romantic possibility yet. GO YAN HE QING IM ROOTING FOR YOU
