my theory is that because in their hearts they knew that natsume still loved kou. even though she tried to make the most of her relationship with otomo since she was happy and tried to forget/hate kou it still wouldn’t work. plus honestly i really think that some part of her wanted to go back to kou which is why she continued letting kou fuck her as she didn’t just let kou show otomo the rape pictures. the problem here is even if she didn’t let kou continue to fuck her and kou showed otomo the pictures, otomo and natsume relationship would’ve completely collapsed. regardless of any of this, i still think it was best for otomo and natsume to break up because the person natsume needed wasn’t otomo and the person kou needed wasn’t kana. natsume’s happiness may have lasted that period of time, but this would just be a fake happiness because she still hasn’t won over her past. and kou also hasn’t won his past because they both need each other to actually move forward.
