The mansion is worth a lot of money and it has historical value. Baron Walford wants to buy the mansion for the lowest price possible. In order to do that, he needs Mildred and her daughters to be in debt or lose money. The baron noticed when he visited the mansion that Mildred had some really expensive paintings in her house. Mildred didn’t know the value of these paintings, and the baron said he would send the paintings out to get them checked for their worth. However, the baron actually knows that they’re extremely valuable, so he took them and is planning to swap the paintings with fakes to give back to Mildred. By doing this, baron walford will not only gain money, but Mildred will also be unable to pay off her debts and costs that she needs for her family, and will sell the mansion at a low price.
Can someone explain this chapter for me ? I’m so confused what does the baron want to do ???
