I need to make a comment here cause this is a conversation I've had recently with 3 separate guys. So I asked two of my friends who are also gay about it one I trade Yaoi stories with constantly and the other isn't into it but knows I read them. The friend I trade stories with said he didn't care obviously we've been trading stories for awhile the other said he didn't care either cause he never felt in any way shape or form that I was fetishizing him. Cause I wasn't it's not like I see a gay couple on the street and assume I know who and how they are just cause I read yaoi. You’ve currently given me several examples, by which are all fetishising a certain group of people. Transgender porn, where the trans woman tops or the trans man bottoms, fetishising transgender women and men. Now that we’ve cleared that up, here’s where the line can be drawn between simple pleasure of watching and reading porn, and only watching and reading it because it’s that type of porn. Me, as a bisexual woman can watch and read lesbian porn/yuri because women is something I’m attracted to. Now this is where a clear distinction comes in. Me reading yaoi is not fetishising men because rather than being attracted to gay men having gay sex, I’m attracted to men. Now this may be my sadist side coming out, but I also enjoy seeing vulnerable men bottoming in yaois. But in your case, as you’ve pointed out, you’re attracted to gay couples, gay sex. Your main motive and thought process is gay sex = hot/sexy. Your fetish, is yaoi, your fetish is watching and reading gay sex. So, it is in fact a you problem, not a me problem

I can’t presume anyone’s sexualities here, but as an avid yaoi reader, a lot of the readers are straight females. Most of the time it’s this over the top fetishisation of gay men that attracted them to the story. This isn’t to say everyone who reads yaoi is like this. I know there are gay men, bi women, even lesbians who read yaoi, but this has always been a problems with this community. The fact that people clicked on this manga, knowing very dang well it’s a gender bend and josei expecting mostly yaoi scenes, kind of proves this point of the community over fetishising gay men and their relationships. To make it clear, yes, josei genderbends do tend to end in a yaoi couple, but the matter of the fact is, gender bend is a fetish in itself. I personally don’t understand wanting it to be all yaoi, as a bi women especially. Not to mention there are TONS of quick paces yaoi with similar art styles and half baked plots. Just saying, if you’re offended by people saying you’re fetishising gay men, that’s a you thing, not a me thing.
