I read it as a flashback of what Yul went through. I thought he was abducted by the ugly guy. When yul said thats the night he died, I contemplate if he was raped.
I think the fact that yul said "I hate winters" was the trigger for it being thats when it happened.
“I died that night... or more like I should’ve died”
I just took it as simple as “I lived bitch” situation, and that he hates winters cuz being in a car accident isn’t fun at all
So when the accident happened Yul wanted to die but he was saved? And the phone call telling him to get out the car means that the “death” was planned? I’m lost
