I read Candy Man recently and it really annoyed me, it romanticized literal death threats. Idk I if I'm being over sensitive but it really got under my skin.
especially tropes that are somewhat like "top fucks/rapes the bottom, and bottom realizes they're gay" .. as a gay man, it irks me to my core. figuring out your own sexuality is NOT something sex can fix, and rape literally traumatizes you so i have no idea why it's so romanticized. maybe i'm just sensitive :( whenever i try to bring this up, i keep being told to calm down and "it's just fiction" but i don't like having my sexuality being portrayed with something as horrible as that.
sexual harassment and rape should not be normalized in gay media, or any sort of media at all, unless it is to portray some sort of backstory or something to help the plot.
Yes and whenever I speak up abt it on the comment section, I will get so much shit from others. It's mind boggling how a lot of people are being super dismissive abt rape. If consent doesn't exist/ is vague, that's just a crime.
We need to talk about the constant ongoing fetishization of rape within the yaoi community. Countless times have I seen manga and manwah’s that have extremely predatory semes that are both abusive/manipulative and often times rape/sexually assault the uke. This isn’t acceptable; we need to talk about this more.
