Ignoring the safe word defeats the purpose and means the person who keeps going is a fucking asshole (and probably shouldn't be trusted to do BDSM)
Also there are consequences to not following the safe word in the community, locally alt least. Organizers of events and like shop owners and stuff have names of folks who are not welcome from passed abuses. In my experience it's the safest sexual community because all the vetting.

following what kdn1315 said, the bdsm community is pretty safe in general since people take alot of precaution with regards to meeting and 'playing' with new people, unlike I guess simple hookups. Usually limits are discussed and negotiated before a session so both parties know what they're getting into, as trust is important esp during more dangerous play. In that sense, if someone doesn't listen to your limits, they're trash and not worth your time, that would essentially be non-consensual.
no need to put a simple label on your sexuality, we're all fluid and changing in our lives. It is totally normal and valid to have tendencies in both or any direction. You can be both dominant and submissive. If you'd like you can do a bdsm test to get an idea of what kind of things you might be into.
