Exactly! You summed up my feelings. The whole time the emperor just got that sad boi vibes but it doesn't justify why he'd kill random people and the way he tried to reason it out makes it clear that he doesn't have an ounce of pity or compassion as u already mentioned.
I dont get why everyone doesnt like the Female Lead. Like she forgave her mother aka the knight that killed her because she found out the knight regrets and mourned her death. and either way she wanted to forgive her because she thought of the knight as her only and first friend anyway. She's not some hypocrite because she doesn't forgive the emperor, cause if u think about it he: Killed her first friend and then mother, and her second friend aka her father. She literally makes friends with his assassins too because they didnt betray or hurt her in anyway, even if they are the emperors assassins etc.
In cliche moment we find that the emperor has a dramatic backstory and we find he too is a dragon reborn as human (but in a different way.) the difference is, his first human friend was kinda selfish and greedy, and after his death (im assuming it was of old age) he took it out on random people who done nothing too him. Due to that, after killing a random kid who the goddess favored is when he got cursed.
Thats the difference, the FL doesnt take it out on random people, and she even forgave the knight. While the Emperor took it out on randoms killing many.
And yall are upset cause she likes the crown prince aka the blonde chef??? like he literally treats her as a person and respects her and falls for her, and she too starts to have feelings for him. He didnt kill anyone important to her, he didnt literally trap her in the castle for years, he didnt force a marriage on her and isnt forcing his feelings either.
Also im glad she doesnt just forgive the emperor or give him sympathy for his tragic backstory like every other cliche book where the girl with revenge suddenly forgives him cause he is troubled and falls for him after he was literally a trash person.
And i get why people don't like the empress but she too is literally a person who was forced to stay in the castle since a young age and is probably emotionally and mentally scarred. And obviously she is gonna make mistakes and do stuff if she thinks it'll keep her from dying. Like she didnt tell him to kill her parents ffs.
And his excuse or reason to kill her parents is so they dont suffer from remorse or somthing????? like im sure she would rather try to patch things up and help them feel better if it meant she gets to see them again. Like he coulda just taken the parents too and maybe it could have been a happy ending etc.
And mans has lived longer as a "human" than she has, and could have idk LEARNED COMPASSION AND BASIC HUMAN EMOTIONS AND THE SUCH??? but nah he just kills everyone that gets in his way and doesnt think things through. Even the FL has some what of a basic understanding of humans and she hasnt been a human all that long.
