I think it was sexual assault, not rape
You could see in the author's note that he did things to chiwoo.
It was rape. The author confirmed it twice, both in the epilogue and on Twitter. This is why Chiwoo was traumatized and scared. This was the choice/action Jihyun made that could never be forgiven. He raped his best friend just because he “loved” him.
