Im pretty sure San asked Geumsun if it was 704 who mistakenly took him to the underworld and he replied no.
I reread chapter 50 and realised he might have meant something else. San asked if the reason 794 feels guilty towards him was because he took San to the underworld and Geumsun replied No. So it might have been 704 who led San into the underworld, but there’re more than that?
So basically Hwan possessed San and Geumsan method was to kill the host and it automatically can kill the monster that possessing the host.
But then according to Yama mentioned, 704 mistakenly took San's soul to Underworld when San body and soul are still attach. And then Geumsan and 704 attached back San soul and body and disguise San as Goblin in order to protect him from Hwan now who's aftering Eunjae. That's why after even though San back his body and soul back he lost his memories after his soul went to Underworld coz of 704
That's why 704 feel sorry for San and always take care of him.
