Normally, before any activity is done, they should discuss what aspects and subjects are totally good, negotiable, non-negotiable, boundaries, and limits.
Also, in bdsm, you just dont come up with rules on the spot while the play is on going. The sub was obviously a newbie on bdsm, and his dom should properly educate him about the things to be expected at a separate appointment. You just dont go slap the person and say "oops i forgot to tell you i can hurt you all i want for sexual pleasure, just say the safeword if you dont like it". Nope. The sub didn't even have a say on that.
