Money the bride pays when she marries into a family (originally for setting up a house and appliances)
Like back then when a women got married the husbands side would give her dowry which is like money or possession (kinda like gifts) to the bride.
It's the property or money the bride have to give to the husband. That money can serve as a gift to in-laws or insurance for the bride in case she leaves the husband or someone of the bride's family dies.
basically it’s like a tradition where the wife’s family has to pay the groom’s family money for marrying their daughter. i think it was used as a settlement in the past when women didn’t own property and stuff so the husband at least got some stuff from the family when they got married. it’s still pretty common today in some asian countries.
