A lot of comments seem to hate Kawafuji but to be fair, kids say mean things they regret, and he tried a bunch of times after that to clear up his lie to Handa, but Handa is astoundingly negative and didn't listen, and also kind of has impressive (bad) fortune with circumstances, so Kawafuji probably just gave up (aside from the school trip thing where he straight up is trying to tell him that the people in his group like him and want to be his friend)
