Based on the book that I've read, Ling shen will be one of Yuan's maid. They live on a mansion sold by an old aunt which also became their cook. MC would always tell Ling shen to go get some herbs in the place where they are suppose to meet with ML. But then one day when the doctor's village hurt his back( not sure but he hurt somewhere on hus body) while Ling shen accompanying him volunteered to be the one who will take care of the doctor. Then the doctor told him that he saw this ginger he tried to get but haven't because of the location where it grew that could help Gu Hui (is it?) So the MC go there but then after he picked out a lot of herbs he saw 2 feet and discovered that it is ML. He helped him out by carrying him to this nearby hut and took good care of ML.
He was very caught up with the idea of Ling shen being ML's wife that when ML woke up he told him that he is Ling shen. ML was temporarily blind at that time, his eyes are kinda cloudy/foggy (whichever works) and also he eat that red peas that could change your voice into a females voice. Then recited all the lines of Ling shen from the book that he read but didn't turn out well since ML was pretty cold to Ling shen (him).

After two nights of being together ML told MC he return to his place which frustrate MC to the core as in the book ML would spend few days in the hut, they will make love, and Ling shen would bring him to the village but he only agreed as ML is persistent that he wanted to go back no matter if he is cured or not. A few days after that ML regained his vision and was surprise when he saw MC's face.

MC was ready to bid goodbyes with ML but ML told him that he will wait until he is in the good condition which confuse MC but he didn't argue as he thinks that maybe things are working out and he will be able to set up ML with Ling shen. ML actually discovered why MC have that voice.
wait so when ML regained his vision and wanted to stay longer because he wanted to be with MC, does MC know that ML is no longer blind?
MC didn't know. ML hid the fact that he can see MC already. MC didn't know that ML can see well until he brought him back to the Taoyuan Village. After some time, they will eventually make up!

No, that's why MC is confuse on why ML suddenly change his decision but doesn't think too much about it since he wanted ML to spend a few more days and follow what happened in the book he read. And MC is still eating that red like peas to change his voice into female.
