And I don't know if the difference you made is true, I've heard of polyamorous relationships where they're not all in love, but still on excellent terms, and it was perfectly wholesome and functioning

Just to let you know:
Polyamory and Polygamy are different things. In African culture it’s normal for men to have more than one wife and the wives are not together; but polyamory is when everybody is in one mutual relationship.
