Akira’s lust and feeling of possessiveness over his loved one is astronomical (they say it in the Chimera explanation), so this dude needed to constantly let steam out in order to stay with Kyoga and not attack him... which didn’t work cuz he got a bit TOO territorial when the girl tried to seduce Kyoga, and ended up fucking him. Anygays, the girls were also a useful information resource so it was two birds in a shot.
