This is bibliophile princess right?
This is her first time *actually* having feelings for a person, and she is very confused and insecure as she don't even know at that time why she was engaged to the prince. She was always belittled in rumours and by other ladies. That's why she was a weak hearted FL~ honestly, it was a realistic response to rhe situation. I would've been surprised if she uncharacteristically stood up for herself and snatched the prince lol
There's actually a manga called "Princess Bibliophile". (That's actually better than this, in my opinion. Although I've only read the given chapters).

Why should she worry about her family when they wanted to marry her despite her protest ? She clearly said no and they wanted her to get married without her consent. Her brother claims it's because he wants her to be happy but yeah it's the usual "I'm a guy so I'll control this woman's fate and pretend it's for her own good because God forbid she herself makes a decision about her own life".
I don't see anything wrong with what she did in that regard.
Yes I do wish she would find ways to be independent but the mute thing is q good solution for a powerless person who didn't get to live their life the 3ay they wanted to
im not saying she should marry the prince, just that mabe she could have talked to her family about it. because the reason they're pushing for the marriage doesn't seem to be because the family want to rise in status or anything, but because they know the MC has no qualities to help her gain a living in the future (adding the fact she's a woman, making it harder, sad but the truth)
and what's wrong with feeeling indebted to her family. she plans to be a mute from now on, and who will take care of her needs if so (cause doesn't seem like she has solid plans for a living in the future, other than "reading books")
she took the easy way out of the engagement (seems to me like she just didnt want to bother thinking further about it), and this mindless decision led to her family's worries. just saying, she could have thought it out better.
"i just want to read books" ......then what?
is like me saying to my parents
"I just want to read mangas my whole life, so take care of me"
which i want to, but i dont cause that is such an irresposible thing to say.
the timeline is different from now, she's 14, still young but should be close to adulthood in their time. she has no accomplisment. all that book reading, and what?
for her future, she can argue that she'll aim to be a great scholar and shit, or compromise if she wants to keep her daily routine. but no, "i'll just be a mute and have my family take are of me" she did.
so, not only does she not give a fuck about worrying her family, to the point her sisters cry at night, she also doesnt plan on earning for herself. what difference does she have from modern day hikikomori, lol...
..i read one manga about a FL who was a bibliophile (that fl was better though) i bet she will blind the princes with her book knowledge, how charming.
