So basically, in the name of aesthetics, women clothes from dresses to shoes, including underwears, were (and still can be) ways to limit women’s movements and freedom ?
The info about them torturing women was mostly in propaganda made by men to limit an industry where mostly women worked. This can be seen in other replies talking about this too. Sorry to say, but if it limited a woman too much it meant it was badly made or not broken in yet. The video where I learned this actually showed the woman recording it doing a cartwheel in her corset. I'll try to find it to send it here if you are interested! If ya corset sucks, it means it wasn't made right, and ya blame the costume maker and how you laced it.

That corsets weren’t all bad ya know. The dresses that women wore back then were really heavy and corsets helped with supporting your back and breasts, although the Edwardian corset got rid of that as well later on owo. Still, yes most women did wear it for fashion and a lot of them had a lot of health problems because of it >.>
