I think she’s trying to get close to the emperor because she has no idea why her family was executed by him. So she’s hoping to either find out why so she can stop it and/or get close enough to him and gain enough favor that her family and her will be spared.
Not really always, most of the ones I read were "I should stay the hell away from them and not have anything that ties us" but they still end up entangled with them and curse their own fate XD
Well the twist about this story is that it makes sense for the FL to get close to the emperor because he's cross dressing as a princess.
and because shes also trying to save the 'one day' future empress.

idk why but everytime the mc in a story was killed by the villain or emperor, etc., still be somewhat like "i should become closer to him no matter what", i definitely lose interest lol idk if the mc is dumbed or what ╮(￣▽￣)╭
