The crown prince hated The real Veronica because he met her once when they were children and knew how Veronica was a bich. However, he noticed something was off about “Veronica” and then learns that she was actually a fake Veronica. He falls in love with her anyways, but never tells her because of her secret, until it was too late.
Extra spoiler: Yea and he never told her because people were always watching and they would soon see her as the princes weakness. When the real Veronica came he found out everything and hated her. When they were coming to kill the prince he took the life if his son and then his own.

Yeah I kinda expected as much about the cousin. Hmmm I'm curious to see how they divert the attention away from the knight since he gave off ml vibes as it seemed she wouldn't like the prince but as you said she ends up with the ml
If anything, the attention will divert to Ren as the second male lead rather than the knight.
