The uke wanted both of them to go to another country, a bigger country where they both can ba happy as a gay couple. He is into christianity if im not wrong (which is banned), the day they plan to migrate, a bunch of guys from authorities come as if they know the uke is into illegal stuff. He was arrested and jailed, the seme migrate to the place where they want to be (because the uke ask him to) and decided to wait for the uke. He wanted to be free for both of them, he is sure if the uke was released, the uke will find a way to migrate too since it was the uke’s plan from the start and the seme will always be waiting for the uke to come. As he wait, he work and get familiar with the surrounding so that it will be easier when the uke come (i guess?) but at the end, he grew old alone, not knowing whether the uke is alive or not.

It is assumed that he (the uke) died bc in a letter/message he sent, it said that other prisoner’s were getting out and that he’s going to get out (of jail) soon. I think by “getting out” he means executed hence why the seme grew old alone. Also at the end, the jail cell was empty so we can assume he died. (I saw another comment about how it must’ve been execution bc in Korea in 1866 there was a killing of around 8000 Christians)
