Suu x Nadan

I genuinely hope Nadan is alive but very confused about how there could be any hope for this pairing.

Nadan was very much done with Suu and getting dragged into Suu’s business. His last words we saw were to ask the prince’s female guard to keep letting Suu believe he’s dead after they were done with him. Nadan told her they’ve been over for a long time - a fact the fortune teller told Suu but he couldn’t accept and even threw the hourglass. Metaphor for wasting everyone’s time with his stubbornness, perhaps? lol

For all we know the prince may have already let Nadan go. The prince may have seemed possessive and didn’t want Suu to leave but maybe because he knew Suu’s wish to leave with Nadan was not going to happen whether or not the fire happened. Nadan was done with Suu and whether or not he died for real it wouldn’t have mattered bc he wished to be dead to Suu.

Suu was miserable in the palace because he was obsessed with his single minded goal of running away with Nadan but I’m curious how he’ll fare out there and if it’s possible for someone with his ambition and power to settle anywhere else. He never wanted peace and quiet. He turned down Nadan trying to secure them a house to live together! His lust for power was greater than his care for Nadan.

Yeah, it sucks that Suu saved up money to free him and did horrible things for it but Nadan would have essentially been freed as a slave by someone who wanted to chain him down in a different way and already controlled him like a master. Suu never listened to his feelings or respected him.

I feel like Suu held onto Nadan in a very unhealthy way to desperately cling onto his first memories of happiness and dependability and as an outlet to cling onto what he thinks is his last shred of humanity but in doing so it made the horrible things he did seem excusable in his mind, made the prince distrust him by picking Nadan over and over again, and made him distrust the prince for reacting poorly to feeling used.

Even during their last meeting Suu acknowledges he wants to see Nadan but also doesn’t bc he knows Nadan hates him and has for a long time. And when Nadan was too nice and complicit during their meeting he saw right through it and blamed the prince for playing him. Nadan overshadowed and poisoned every genuine moment of happiness between Suu and Suryeon bc Suu was too stubborn to let the past go.

Suu wanting to properly bury Nadan I think has more to do with the flashback we saw of Nadan secretly burying the dead bad guys and Suu kicking their grave. It was important to Nadan so I bet Suu wants to give him the same respect and less so as taking on the symbolic role of widow or whatever.

Suu blames Suryeon for Nadan’s death and I feel like it will his motivation for running away in volume 3 but personally I think deep down never wanting to see the Crown Prince again is somewhat also rooted in guilt. He probably can’t face someone he felt a lot for, betrayed, and almost killed.

Nadan also had a confusing background I didn’t quite fully understand but for how many times Suryeon and his guards questioned his capabilities I wouldn’t be surprised if he does turn back up with revenge motives or is smarter than he looks.

I really hope Nadan isn’t dead. I hope Suryeon has something to do with saving him. And I hope Suu feels really dumb about it when he finds out and moves the f on.

Umm...Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk
