Speaking from experience, it is a good sentence and the right thing to do even if it's the absolute hardest thing to do. When you don't forgive your abusers, you hold on to that pain and suffering of what they did to you the entire time which ultimately hurts no one but you in the end. Its not so much about absolving them of their sins so much as letting go of what happened in order for you to move on and truly get better. I'm still working on that but I understand the meaning of the sentence.

i have heard those word before. "forgive them for you" it doesn't mean forget. having hate and angry for someone doesn't affect them as much as it effects you the sentence doesn't mean just be nice and love the person that hurt you. in my case after forgiving them means i try not to waste and time and emotions on them. the saying it really a about you and only you

I understand the meaning implied. Thank you for all your explainations and shared thoughts. What shocked me was the timing of it being said. It would be very hard to swallow when the wounds and memories are still fresh. Thus resulted in her thinking she is "destined" to be treated as such. And to say that to a little girl is... highly not recommended.

It's an advice better said sooner than later because most victims will not consider forgiving their abuser whatsoever. It will take a lot of pondering on that sentence to understand and be able to move on. The later you consider the possibility, the longer it has a hold on you.
