that's what's so good about the protagonists... although their intentions are not 'pure', their actions are 'pure'. It slightly reminds me of the dynamics of the protagonist of a novel I read in ap english during my senior year called The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and this particular quote "The strength of his character is demonstrated not by his doing the right thing because it is right, but by his doing the right thing all the time believing he is doing the wrong thing"
kind of like how they have no intentions to help others and their only intention is to secure a safe cozy life but in the end they get involved and involuntarily end up helping
