MAJOR SPOILERS:
There are sad parts especially with San Lang and Xie Lian’s past, which talks about the hardships both of them had to go through, a lot of them being very brutal and what lead to San Lang (Hua Cheng’s) death and how he became a devastation. But in the “present” timeline so when they meet during Xie Lian’s 3rd accession which is what the manhua current ch is at now,, as they continue their journey together there’s a point where San Lang “dies” again but after a year he comes back and they become married... there’s also extra chs where it shows their life together as a married couple. Overall it’s very good and none of which is “sad” as in they don’t end up together.
To all that are interested in the novel after this manuha i highly recommend you start from the beginning cause as absolutely gorgeous this art is it leaves stuff out the author put in. Not to mention the changes in the donghua
