Even if i were mentally 25 and stuck in a childs body I would rather starve than talk to a fathersiblings who abandoned me.
I dont think Aria and Arjen should care if communication is key because they are victims, and it is not their responsibility to reach out to anyone they feel hurt by and patch up the relationship. Their behaviour is justified. Its like expecting the children of a couple thats planning to divorce try to mend the relationship between their parents, its not their responsibility.

is there a legal way for a kid to get a divorce from their parents? aside from a restraining order.

There is. It's called emancipation. (⌒▽⌒)

Mm. sounds disappointing. I want to imagine something like a fed up kid scheduling a formal diner with their parent in some high class fancy restaurant, slamming down a stack of paperwork that states their full legal independence, & sort of just going "I'm out" before leaving in some extravagant manner. I'd like it even more if the kid then somehow became their parent's Boss at whatever company the parent works at. I know it's unrealistic but it makes me happy to imagine. (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
