I think he knew that she would go back (maybe he has some kinda strange power?) and he intended to just do it all over again and make her fall in love with him (since his previous actions made her fear him). I believe that he can also remember everything but she isn't supposed to remember. This makes me question though if he has done this a few times already and she just remembers the last time or if this was a one time thing...
