Drop the G and you’re fine. Besides, I’m too scared to start dramas and tv shows based off anything because they rarely follow the original story. I understand China has a LOT of censorship laws but can they get less Fahrenheit 451 and more (first few chapters of) Great Gatsby?
Also here’s the novel if you haven’t read it (chapter 1 is just a bunch of dudes talking shit about our baby Wei Ying at a bar): https://exiledrebelsscanlations.com/gdc-chapter-2/
They actually did a really good job with the drama! The fact that the entire cast and staff ship wangxian and tried to get as much through censorship really shows. I honestly cannot understand how some of those scenes were not banned automatically (especially the ones we're seeing right now in the manhua abut the Xuanwu cave). But yeah, they did change things up a little bit so it could fit the flow better and they used one particular plot device that was well used but insignificant in the long run, so I understand your fear. Funnily enough, the censorship in The Untamed resulted in an extremely pure, devastatingly sweet romance once they took out all of the sexual aspects of their relationship lol
I strongly agree with your comment! I fell in love with the drama first and that´s how I ended up looking for more and I was not disappointed. The cast is just so perfect and all of them so committed to their characters that you can´t help to love all of them (except Wen Chao and company) and the main couple has such good chemistry that you can feel all the love by just looking at them together, when they look at each other you just melt...
Yeah, same! I started watching the drama because someone recommended it to me, and I expected it to suck but instead made me a diehard MXTX fan and introduced me to Chinese media in general. I can't thank CQL enough for helping me discover so many wonderful Chinese stories that I wouldn't had batted an eye at otherwise. The Japanese anime community had me convinced that Chinese manhua, donghua, and literature were inferior, and I was convinced that Chinese live action series would be as bad as the Japanese ones. It's been almost 6 months since I watched CQL and I've barely touched Japanese-made things since because I've been too busy catching up on Chinese media after discovering how good some of the materials are lol
I´m also new to this Chinese material, I´m finding very interesting the cultivation world. I feel like I have missed a lot by not knowing about this sooner. But, I´m still a die-hard Japanese fan. I´m also invested in Korean drama and manhwas. I´m scared to read the other works by this author because I know that they will make me suffer as much as this one. I love this kind of stories, but at the same time I get too emotional with the sad parts, I´m still crying for the Wens, for WWX´s sister, and don´t make me remember about the Yi city arc jejejeje
If you take advice, I'd recommend you start with Scum Villain's Self-Saving System since it's a lot more lighthearted than MDZS and it's also shorter. Heaven's Official Blessing is amazing, I honestly don't know which one between it and MDZS I like most, but it's also very very long and it does have some tragedy (though not the same kind of tragedy as MDZS, it's a very different flavor). If you're scared, you can always start with the donghua (or manhua, in TGCF's case) and see the beginnings of the stories before deciding if you should start reading them! SVSSS just had its first season and TGCF aired its 4th episode yesterday, though you can only watch the first 2 episodes for free on YouTube for now, with more to be released each week (I think, I'm not sure because I'm watching it on bilibili). But, trust me, the pain is always worth it with MXTX.
In my opinion, heaven official's blessing is even more romantic than mo dao zu shi, though it's also a lot longer. The manhua's only covering the second arc right now, so it will take a while for them to finish it, which is nice because they're putting a lot of attention to the art and it's frankly breathtaking, easily the most aesthetically pleasing manhua I've ever seen!
Yeah, definetly check it out! The donghua is also doing a really good job at making the fandom squeak with how well-done and romantic it gets at some parts, and it's about to start the second arc (the manhua is about to finish that same arc), so definetly give it a try if you're into animation too!
Also, I don't normally read webcomics that are still in progress because I like to read them in little marathons and I end up forgetting details, but I actually had my eyes on that one and now I'm excited for when I'll get to read it! You don't find a lot of stories that have both good art and good story at the same time, so that's definetly a plus!
Yeah, I tried really hard not to read ongoing series, but I failed Σ(っ°Д °;)っ look at my ongoing list http://www.mangago.zone/home/photo/8921878/#image
