I have too many recommendations for you, since I've been reading historical Chinese BL novels since 2016...I lost count how many novels I've finished. Most of historical BL with good plots and characters are slow burn with sex scenes usually at the very end or extras, or with non-explicit descriptions so don't worry about that!
I highly recommend:
1. Di wang gong lue (the emperor's strategy) -ongoing translations (the seme is super duper doting on the uke but he can also joke around)
2. Thousand Autumns (ongoing translations) - the plot is very2 good and engaging
3. Tian Guan Ci Fu (HOB) completed
These are all very popular ofc..you can find them on NU with the same title

I guess it depends on the level of NSFW that you're looking for? HOB's smuttiness is like FOD, and 2ha contains smut, but also some dark ones...
But chances are u already read these two so you already know..
Many historical BL that contain plot and smut highly likely started off as dub-con, non-con, or power imbalance, so I usually don't recommend that since it cud be a turn off for some...but objectively they still have good plot
I'm seeing a lot of manhuas that has a novel, but most doesn't really have a good plot and often seem cliche. And somehow I just read The Wife is First novel after discovering it's mahwa version and dang it was good. I've read FOD ( really hoping for a manhua) before and after reading TWIF, I'm getting hooked on Chinese BL novels. Can anyone recommend a good Chinese BL novel with good main characters? The Gong of The Wife is First and FOD are my favorite type of seme. I'd also prefer if the novel focuses more on romance and has smut. Thanks in advance!
