There is nothing unusual in hiring people to attend parties with you, and I can guarantee that no one in those parties they attended assumed that she is a girlfriend (rich people knew each other, so most likely they don’t know her, she’s a total nobody) until she stupidly blabbed about being his “girlfriend.” No one is taking her seriously for sure and she’s just the subject of their gossip. I totally agree with just about all you're saying and I probably just missed something but was it ever said to her that what they were doing was just a business deal?
My understanding is that she missread the situation as him taking her out on dates to these parties and giving her gifts (and because she isn't from the higher end, she isn't familiar with the consept of an escort versus a date) she was offered the money for going to these events and denied it, but was she made aware that the gifts she received were replacement for the money?
Was there a point where it was said to her or that information was presented from her perspective that these weren't dates?
That was all I was trying to say with this post and if you can remember for sure if she was presented with this information or a page where it happened that would be cool

She's definitely a crappy person but as far as I know, this situation was born from a misunderstanding (though her personality and desperation definitely didn't help anything)
No problem! I can’t remember the exact chapters, but I can clearly remember the scenarios (I’ve read this series several times already sheeesh) She didn’t misread the situation. Jinyao is donating money to help his former professor pay the tuition for his scholars, and that’s how they met.

When she was introduced to Jinyao, she already had the intention to use him as her stepping stone to get rich quick, especially when she was offered to be his escort on parties/events he attends to. As Jinyao had said a few chapters ago, he tried to give her money (on top of paying for her her tuition), as payment for all times he takes her to those parties. But she opted to be paid with designer items because in her own exact words, “she doesn’t want to be seen as a gold digger.” That phrase alone smells really fishy and reeks with future evil plans.

Most likely he never done anything sexual to her: they go out, they leave, then she gets chauffeured home and Jinyao leaves in a separate car. And later on she meets up with the secretary so she can buy the things she likes as her payment. Jinyao only sees her when she is needed. He has been very transactional and professional to her from the very start. I doubt that she is in love with him though, as Jinyao said a while ago, she loves anyone who will give her money.

There are scenes in the earlier chapters where they go out on a dinner/date. It’s more of a show; Jinyao knew that his relatives are watching over him, and there are other women who are interested in him, so just he wants to appear as if he has a steady date so he won’t be bothered

But it wasn't made clear to her that she wasn't his girlfriend and that he saw her as nothing more than an employee. She believed she was in a relationship and that he just dropped her for another girl. This doesn't excuse her actions per se but I don't think it's worth destroying all she's worked for in school and possibly suing her into crazy amounts of debt. He should just cut off ties and support to her and leave her to her own devices to struggle to pay for the rest of her schooling.
I understand him being angry for trying to hurt others around him and possibly his own reputation, but to sue to get back the money he spent on her when he could probably dispose of those same funds 10 times over without wounding his finances at all seems just a little petty. She still has schooling ahead and tuition is hella expensive, she'll have to really work her ass off to make it and if she fails, he's already washed his hands of the situation and no blame can really fall on him.
This is honestly just what I would do in this situation, but that's probably just because I'm a manipulative people pleaser - I wouldn't give two shits about the girl but this way it still seems like I'm being generous ( u3u)v
