I've actually heard that corsets weren't as bad as we're making them out to be. They were underwear and also covered the breasts so that they had support and thus were not only used to make a womans waist look thin (though that reason is really really stupid). Bras weren't evented then so what did those woman wear instead? Nothing?
So this is really far off of reality

Oh and they are making the women Look dumb here, because everyone is like "ohhh this is comfortable?" as if they were wearing corsets at night as well. But okay, we're not here for realism, I know ( ̄へ ̄)

I'm not sure I agree. Multiple actresses who have played historical figures and had to wear corsets report that it hurt and was extremely uncomfortable at best. I forgot who it was but I remember that one of them was on the Graham Norton show and she said that it rearranged her inner organs in an inhuman way

I think that it depends on the time period the author is talking about. I'm not an expert but corsets have come a long way, they used to be tighter and caused deformities to the body. I may be wrong but I think thats why in the time period of this webcomic the corsets were not as tight.

Yeah, actresses who wear corsets that aren't made for them and are put right against the skin of course are gonna be in pain, especially if they tight lace. But the thing is, wearing a corset like that is something that a no one would have done in the past, and tight lacing was actually super fucking rare. But of course, Hollywood doesn't care about historical accuracy when they can have a "sexy" scene of a girl having her corset tightened right against her skin

Was about to post this very point.
    Replaced with nothing?
I doubt anyone but the very young would ditch corsets entirely with no alternative.
It took entire generational shifts, revolutionary materials (elastic and nylon) and a couple of freaking world wars for our societies to drop them entirely in the mainstream.
And even today we still have shape wear to flatten tummies and lift breasts.
We still have corsets, just by a different name like, girdles and spanx.
Not even getting into corset culture and how most modern cheap mass produced corsets are almost nothing like the custom made ones of the times.

What Elen said. I'd also like to add that those actresses are often wearing corsets for the first time, and just going for hours at a time. Which no new corset wearer should ever do!
