But in this chapter he just went and talked with two strangers when he wasn't even asked!
I think it's because he is still under the emotion of what happened to them. The way Max held him back in the restaurant will mark a turning point in their relationship. Chris felt safe in his arms and from then he will tend to lower his guards whenever Max is with him. He acted naively for sure but notice that he also realized at some point that the atmosphere in the car gets intense and kinda awkward and he stopped talking from there.
At times Chris is so clever and can find truth with logic and intuition but don't know how the same person can frankly confess about his investigations to some mere strangers!!
