On earth in our reality it's always been like that yes. But as blindbandit said it already has a fantasy aspect. So including another tweak that empowers women would neither be illogical nor impossible. But since most artist don't it seems like most people just aren't quite there yet. We're still in the 'making inequality visible' phase but are at least already slowly moving into the 'empowerment' phase.
Just letting out some pent up frustrations
For the love of yaoi, why does a female still have to have this cliche problem. Can somebody please think of another cliche to replace this?! Anything and I mean anything will do. Why does the daughter always need to have a marriage problem and puh-lease unlike the male leads, she doesnt have anything to gain from them nor can she be the head honcho or have any say in the important matters. And no thank you to the "but she's gonna have a loving hubby" retort. I'd feel much happier if that hubby would step down and let her be head honcho. Honestly, we are already tweaking medieval inspired mangas with magic and other things. Just one more thing wont hurt (〜￣△￣)〜
