If Aki had gone through brain surgery, he'd have had more stuff hooked up to him in the hospital bed, not just a pulse monitor. Asami had more hooked up to him than Aki did.
I'm also wondering about this. People are interpreting a lot into some pics. A lot that is not there at all!
They're is not ONE word on their medical status anywhere. Nor any word that they might even be in any kind of critical status anymore.
Maybe there was just blood in Akihito's hair, so it was cut short. From the pics he might as well just have been bandaged up and got a concussion.
Nothing else can be seen there or is written anywhere. Nothing on his condition, nothing on who saved who's fall.

Head wounds always bleed a lot, even minor ones. Maybe Aki has a concussion. They'd keep him in the hospital to monitor him, make sure there's no brain swelling or bleeding, which would be very serious. But if it's been over 24 hours, he's likely past the worst and just unconscious or sleeping.
And if Aki was in a coma, he'd have more tubes hooked up to him, more than Asami, that's for sure--up his nose, in his arms, a catheter. You want examples, search on "coma patient," and see. They have to be kept hydrated and nourished or they'll starve.
I don't think they will have amnesia because that would mean sensei needs to rebuild theire relationship and that would take aloooot time.....but other problems may arise, we saw asami waking up after feilong left his room, so he is ok i guess, but aki is still in a coma and all.....what if (and this is just a theory) aki looses his legs or some damage that he needs to let go of his career.
Remember when sudo asked aki to choose between his job and asami? In the beginning of the arc soooo maybe just as his nightmare it was also a sign to show that at the end of the day he will choose one (asami or his job) which in this case because he chose to stay by asami he lost his job.......
If Aki was in a coma there would be more stuff attached to him...
Also I can't really imagine that with all those unanswered questions about Chernobog and the usual Gangster-life, sensei will turn this into a fic about disability and job-insecurity.

He protected asami from the fall so he got most of the damage. While asami is recovering from bullet wounds, his head is fine but aki fell and hit his head. Based on the pics he went through a brain surgery. I just hope he wont have amnesia cause that would really drag out this arc（/TДT)/
