I think the whitewash part was because the people who had darker skin were literally killed off so people who were lighter had a better chance of living among the regular population and not get killed on sight and then the rest is genetics; its like selective breeding with an external force (murder) causing a preferential selection for lighter skin tones basically or my theory for it anyways so her light skin is technically proof of the violence and murder of her own people because all the dark skinned people in her tribe/clan were killed off so yeah

The only thing I didn’t like about this story was that they had to whitewash her people. It’s already hard to find POC as protagonists and I thought that this was gonna be one of those stories, but over all, I love how strong and wise she is. Definitely an empress I wouldn’t mind devoting my life to
