From the looks of it, She was always gaslighted by the people around her to do stupid things and maybe the OG Penelope got tired of it, so She just always act like a villain.
Because when the brothers knows the truth, they always sided Her.
Maybe it was lack of communication why all things fell apart.
There's no point because she's not her and the original is dead. Also they never really cared for her if they had they wouldn't have made her into a villain.
The Duke adopted her because she looked like his daughter, but when she was falsely accused he never tried to find the truth. He didn't even pay attention to her throughout the years when she was getting bullied nor when she was suffering.

It’s kinda true that they never really knew the truth but they never even tried to find out what the truth was tbh :// and the bothers obviously hated her,, ever since she was brought back just because she looked like the dead sister, they’ve always despised her tbh. It was the brother that framed her when she was a child and the servants just sided with them. Her brothers had always hated her and it just made her into a bad person but now that she has a different personality because she’s a different person, they’re suddenly shocked that the girl they made into a villain is suddenly nice and sensible. They never taught her manners. She was only neglected and bullied. They would intentionally do things that would make her feel awful and still wonder why she turned out to be a bad person. But now they’re okay because she isn’t like before? They were so against her just because she existed man... she just thought that if they already hated her, why not just be a villain instead of care about the opinions of those who won’t ever look at her differently yaknow. These bitches are literally like entitled old people that give 0 respects about you but expect respect from you. It goes both ways and the brothers and father fucked up any chance of that ever since the beginning so I don’t think the they really deserve a happy ending with her tbh. They literally dONT deserve her at all. They are the cause of everything that has happened so far so ://
