I think he really did love him but it was too much at that. Like to the point of possessing him. Maybe he didn't know how to love him properly. Hope he'll learn his lesson thru Kyungsoo and have a healthy relationship.
I also think it wasn't "love" love. Maybe it was more like "I can have anyone but you, so I love you" kind of thing. You can see it plenty of times that some people wants the most the thing they can't have...
I think he was obssessed with dojun, which is unhealthy and toxic. Thank goodness he accepted defeat and let go just for another door of love to open and give him another chance to try.. this time, for happiness and true love.

I think Chowon doesn’t really love Dojun that much, it’s just his ego and his pride that’s making him act like that. Like he can’t accept that someone won’t fall/love him knowing he got the pretty face, the status and whatsoever that is
