Oh, I haven't reached the end yet but in a way I agree with you. This is personally on top of my list for a lot of reasons (the drawing art, the plot, the character/s ...). In a way sensei was able to turn the tables on us but transforming an anti-hero (a teen murderer) into some sort of a sisyphean "hero". I can't really refine my opinion till I reach the end but my initial take was that Ryo is the creation of the malfunctioning of the modern society's system of values. Perhaps not everyone will agree, but that's my personal interpretation. I hope that Izo Hashimoto will create more mangas like this one because I think that this is his only work up till now.

I agree with everything you write Lilas-chan. :D Ryo is a guy you can love or hate. I personally adore characters like this..he was such a sicko while fighting. xD
Izo Hashimoto is the author of "Underdog" too, try it, maybe you'll like it. :D And if you want a manga with the same art as Shamo try "Glaucos" . :D

Really?!!! I am so happy because you told me that he has another manga. I was disappointed when I checked his online biography and they listed Shamo as his only work! Of course, he is a screenwriter and a film director so he wouldn't have too much time to dedicate to drawing. I'll make sure to check both your suggestions. Thanks a lot (bye the way, there is also a film version of this manga. I've been trying to find it but maybe it isn't that good because it scored only 5.5/ 10 on rotten tomatoes (︶︿︶) )

Oh thank you, that is very kind of you. However, our yesterday's conversation was a good omen because after so many weeks looking for it, I finally got my hands on a copy. So the day started with a good tip and ended with a good gift. It seems that you carry a lucky charm which somehow rubbed off on me ::giggle:: (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
![](https://pic1.mangapicgallery.com/r/avatar/eb/u7643_50x50.jpg?2)
Of course be my luck charm and rub your luck on me as much you can (⌒▽⌒). This is the greedy me lol
About the movie, well ... nothing can compare to the manga! At the beginning I was a little bit disappointed because I thought that something was lacking: an angle which makes the story much more coherent and compelling in the viewer's eyes.
Of course, there was a time constraint (1 hour 40 minutes) so the story was condensed and some of the characters were recast and new elements were introduced into the movie.
For starters, we only got to see snippets from Ryu's time in the reformatory though the scriptwriters introduced a scene where Ryu was asking for help but the institution's principal was just harboring pure hatred towards him so his plea was denied naturally.
When Ryu gets out and he finds Natsumi, the escort girl, well in that part she was neither raped nor killed. She became his girlfriend but was injured but not fatally before the final match between Ryu and Sugawara.
In the movie, there was a different setting in regard to how Ryu became aware of Sugawara. The scriptwriters made it so that he is chased by the bad guys in the stadium where the latter was fighting. I thought that part was good because he looses the fight, gets knocked off, humiliated before the audience as his pants fell down and to top it all, he literally gets stepped on by Sugawara, his fiancée and the audience. Then he is thrown out as a worthless cloth.
This element is used to justify the grudge that is going to grow in his heart against Sugawara but luckily as the story progressed he just scared Megumi to provoke Sugawara without raping her.
In the movie, a greater part is given to both Kensuke and Kurokawa. In the manga, there was much more people who helped Ryu whereas in the movie he had only Kurokawa, Natsumi and the guy who lost his arm in the manga.
Of course, Ryu was portrayed as a vicious guy as much as he was in the manga. His treacherous side was shown. I thought that most viewers won't feel sympathy or be enthusiastic towards him until the end.
I haven't finished reading the manga yet but in the movie there was a huge twist. Natsumi, the sister, is revealed to have a mental illness and as Ryu was fighting his last battle, there was some sort of a telepathic communication between him and his sister, so she remembers that it was she who killed their parents. Ryo took the blame only to protect her. Sugawara won the fight naturally but Ryo gets back on his feet as the two Natsumi cheer for him in Natsumi's room in the hospital. This was really the icing on the cake for me. I loved the final scenes along with the soundtrack which was used at the end of the movie.
It is not disappointing at all, if we take into consideration that the main actor (Shawn Yue) portrayed Ryu very well (I thought that it was really him) and the fighting scenes were awesome. I hope that you'll get the chance to watch the movie too. Then it will be your turn to tell me about your impressions ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

hehehehe oh I am very shy and ticklish everywhere so it won't work (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
hmmm yeah, it was just pouring out of my fingers but it doesn't matter because what I've written won't affect you, reading about the movie isn't the same as watching it.
Well it is a very slow read because most of the time I am saving pages from the manga to take a good look at sensei's drawings, hence I am still at chapter 69, though I've taken a peak into other volumes lol
I am mostly saving the rest of this series for the summer break so I can read it in one go and look at the drawings as much as I want.
![](https://pic1.mangapicgallery.com/r/avatar/ac/u238_50x50.jpg?2)
Did i get turned down? xD
Okay then i'll watch it when i find the time. :D
Whoa you still have so much to read. (☆▽☆) I hope you'll find the time to finish it in your summer break. :D Ah btw if you want to read another amazing manga, i recommend you this one.

I'm sure you'll love it. :D

Oh my gosh, so you think that I turned you down, let's say that I ran away so you can chase me more ( ̄∇ ̄"). We have a mangago user who probably would say "if you have the right amount of fluffiness, you come here". I am saying just that (● ̄(エ) ̄●)
Yes, well probably I won't finish it because I can't waste my precious summer break on reading one manga as I have many things I plan to do already.
Really? I've add it to my list. I hope that I'll get to it some time in the future. Thank you a lot.

*I am a mythical rare cat* I can't be chased with a rope ( ̄∇ ̄"), even if you are a Shibari master (well, are you one? (● ̄(エ) ̄●) )
oh, that would be our lovely @Moi? ::wave:: if she ever spots this. I often see very funny comments by her with mention of fluffiness (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Well after living for around a millennium, I am planning to travel on board of my broomstick to Transylvania to meet the legendary count Dracula. It is not true what they say that vampires and werewolves can't get along. On full moon nights you see I am one ... which means probably that I will be sitting under the full-moon howling and wondering if there is someone on the other side thinking about me. That's my summer agenda lol
Ok, I hope so too (⌒▽⌒)
![](https://pic1.mangapicgallery.com/r/avatar/eb/u7643_50x50.jpg?2)
hahaha Now I am really worried but not about myself but about you ( ̄∇ ̄") . I am a whimsical creature so it is already difficult to handle me :p with or without ropes.
I like Shibari too if the pieces are shown without using a real model because I can't bear to see a person in ropes even if it is her/ his wish ( ̄∇ ̄"). It is like alienating one's freedom (but different people have different tastes).
I haven't "seen" her myself around here lately but trust me she has the funniest comments ever!
Yeah it is cute ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ Well whatever you're gonna do, I wish you have plenty of fun (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
![](https://pic1.mangapicgallery.com/r/avatar/eb/u7643_50x50.jpg?2)
Really now hahaha
Well I believe that I misrepresented my idea about Shibari which led to a misunderstanding lol, I am neither interested in the real model nor the non-real model. I don't like to see anyone or anything in a rope just the knots themselves as a form of craft or an artifact. Perhaps it is not nice towards the model who is doing this but when I look at Shibari's photos, I completely forget who is in there. I just zoom it and look at the design as if it were a mathematical concept which I am trying to break down into its constituent elements ...
Something like this is fun to look at for instance, incorporating Shibari into fashion:

Yup, yup ... thanks a bunch.
What a rushed ending. :/
Anyways Ryo Narushima will be forever one of my favorite guys!! <3
