I also think he is in love with the empress. And Rashta is just very good at sucking up, that boosts his ego. He is just so stupid and entitled and thinks that his wife belongs to him and will always be and feel towards him the same no matter what he does. And he gets what he is missing on the side (Rashta) and thinks everybody will just happily accept all that. Neither Navier nor Rashta do so. Neither anybody else. An immature entitled brat, who thinks the world is exactly so as he thinks and feels. I want to punch him in every pannel he is in. ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ
I really think the Emperor loves Navier. But is too stupid to express and show Navier. So instead of making an effort, he took that talking trash and showered her with his love(for Navier) instead. Cuz u know Trashta is kinda thirsty for love, so I guess they match so well? Both are garbage either way ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

When they divorced, and he didn't expect that Navier would ask to remarry--he shocked and absolutely hated the idea of her getting married to another. And he couldn't even let go of her. He was in denial stage and couldn't believe that what he planned, backfired 'for real'. It was already too late when he realized he lost someone precious to him-- he knows that she is precious, but he took advantage of it, thinking that Navier will always and forever be his. HeH.

It sure serves him right! Reading all those spoilers make it easier to tolerate his behaviour right now. They make it bearable.
spoiler, actually he planned to make trasha concubine then ditch her to give the child to Navier. He aims to make trasha empress then after one year get Navier her empress title. The only reason he was doing this is because he thought that Navier is infertile due of the cookies he fed her once they were young. He thought that Navier will never bear a child and so he need a successor. But he never actually thought of letting Navier go so when the empress announce she will get remarried he was furious.
Stupid Sovieshu. The poor country, their ruler is stupid.
Why not just discuss the matter of successor with the wife? Maybe she would have brought the topic of a surrogate mother herself? Or they would have looked deeper into who is actually infertile. Adoption of a relative has always been an option. For gods sake, it is a world with magic!!!!
I feel like the emperor is lowkey in love with the empress, and I know alot of ya'll are gonna disagree, but there are just so many moments where he's either remembering how cute the empress was when she was younger or he's getting jealous of her being around other men. I could probably be very wrong he could view her like his little sister or something, but I've just noticed too many times where he seems like he kinda likes her. He's just insanely stupid and just plain old crazy so he's always doing the wrong things. And I also feel like he got Rashta as his concubine just to get her jealous.
