In my country the age of consent has always been 14 and in most countries is 16 but idk... In California's case it seems kinda drastic to suddenly lower the age of consent when it's been 18 for such a long time. Because from what I've seen, the only people interested in lowering the age of consent in the US are pedos and gross men in general. Americans have been taught for decades that they should only date people their own age, it's part of their culture, so the ones who are against it probably think of themselves as above the law and are more prone to be antisocial and have a criminal mindset. Now that they know they can change the age of consent, 14 is probably just the start and they'll try to make it lower and lower. Idk if I'm making sense here but
TL;DR: Dating a minor in a country where this is legal and culturally accepted doesn't make you a pedo (unless you wanna date a toddler but this isn't legal anywhere) but only pedos will go out of their way to make the government lower the age of consent
