I think yumi lost contact with masaya and used kan-chan maybe to forget him That's why he's resentfull and beats yumi I guess

Did you miss the part where Yumi dropped his phone in water after graduation? That was their only way of contact, but it was lost (unless Yumi has the same contact info as before). Also, I don't see Mayama (who's Masaya?) as gutless and insubstantial. His every action shows his profound affection for Yumi. Even when he found out Yumi is going out with someone, he didn't give up and leave him. It takes a lot of courage to do that, because it hurts to know the one you love is with someone else. The unreliable and gutless one is Kan, who uses his lover as an outlet for his frustrations -- fully knowing his lover will just desolately accept it without retaliation. In essence, he's taking advantage of Yumi's feelings for him and making him out as a scapegoat of all his stress. I don't care if Kan genuinely loves Yumi. Anyone who unreasonably abuses their lover is scum.

I think you're right about the lost contact, and the use of Kan-chan. I also agree that's one of the excuses Kan-can uses to rationalize his inexcusable behaviour (seriously, the man's a psychopath and a criminal and needs to be in jail.) I wasn't disputing those points. I do think that Masaya or Mayama, whatever his name is, isn't coming across as someone that Yumi can depend on yet.

No, I didn't miss that part. I simply think it's a lame excuse and if Mayama had had any balls, he wouldn't have given up so easily. I'm sure they had friends in common while they were at school. I'm sure he could've asked the administration office to forward a message. There's all kinds of things he could've done if he had really cared all that much.
As for Kan-chan, you won't find me in disagreement about him. I think he needs to go to jail.
My comments are about Yumi, his mind, his messed up life with his boyfriend, and what he needs to do to break free. Because if he's depending on Mayama to rescue him, I think he's going to be disappointed ... again.
I love this mangaka's stories, even when they are sad and disheartening. Her characters are so realistic, even the villains.
Poor Yumi. I hope a happier future is in store for him. Masaya's love appears very airy and delicate-flower-ish so far. Why didn't he ever call or text? I can see why Yumi would see that as gutless and insubstantial ... unreliable and too frail to last, even. It may be that Yumi puts up with Kan-chan's abuse because at least someone is paying attention to him. It may be that, to Yumi, being invisible and ignored IS more painful than that atrocious abuse. Isn't that one of the things that drives masochism?
