I have a few, but I try not to let them rot the entire experience for me.
1. "I'm wealthy, ergo I'm hot. Behold the exclusivity of my brands." Blergh. Having money to spare does not equal talent or intelligence.
2. "For the appalling poor taste of having confessed their crush on me, girls are bitches." I mean, doesn't anyone notice the inherent contradiction in these assholes' statements?
3. "Since we are all in love with Big Dick-sama, we resent the exclusive attention he pays to you. So toe the line, or we'll do something mysterious and vindicative when you're not paying attention." Wha-hunh? Out of which hell-world did they drag these alien parasites? And can we dial the character development back to human-esque?
4. "I have an IQ of 12,002. At the age of 4, I was awarded my first PhD. I became an Olympic gold medallist at 5. I ran my first multinational corporation by 10. I can make love all night and all day for 6 weeks nonstop, without even needing to pee."
Those are just the ones off the top of my head.
Ore sama'aura ... that's a thing? Hmmmmm.
I don't mind gifted characters. Like them, in fact. It's lovely to see people striving to better themselves. When characters suddenly sprout souped-up superpowers, though, the story switches gears into madcap comedy. That isn't always a good thing.
I don't mind confident men. I'm attracted to them, but arrogance tends to go hand-in-hand with low self-esteem, and that usually spells trouble for the partner. Not always. Sometimes, a haughty response is the only appropriate response to invasive and insulting behaviour. It depends.
Wealth ... it's like a happy side effect: nice if it happens, but not crucial to the self and something which definitely needs to be subservient to qualities of character. As a seduction technique, it's pretty crass.
So, does that sound like I hate Ore samas? Or just certain kinds of Ore samas?
1. MC who'll just let anyone walk over him/her and will, if pushed to the brink, cry. And, usually, said MC finds a love interest who does something to screw the MC over but, hey, it's real love so all attempted rapes, murders, kidnappings, (insert crime here) can be forgiven! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
2. "Ouji-sama is everyone's; we made a pact that none of us can go after him so we don't cause him any trouble". I smell bullshit. Y'all just know you'd be rejected and don't have the guts to either try or bow out. The strangest part is, it's not as if attacking the love interest would improve their chances: if he didn't want you single, he's not gonna want you when he already has a girl *rolls eyes so hard they pop out of my head*
3. Character tropes. That's right girl who becomes a bishoujo once you take off the glasses; listen up classroom officer/student council president who's secretly a psycopath; delinquent guy with a good heart, put down that kitten and shake the rainwater from your hair: I'm coming at you! I am just SO sick and tired of these 2D characters popping up all the time. I get it: people aren't always what they seem and you wanna play that up, but the world has more than 3 types of people and most of us don't have that whole split personality thing going on. Why not have a character who takes off his/her glasses to reveal...another pair of glasses! Well maybe not but still, just give me some variety. ヽ(`Д´)ノ
Probably the excessive drooling during sex in yaoi haha
Oh seeing a manga on my update list reminded me of another...when the artist is changed in an established story for a new arc or a fight scene or whatever and they're like completely crappy artists and don't try to match the original at all so you sit there just feeling ill trying to read it. I see this in anime a lot too...it's the reason I stopped watching Naruto, you can not take some of the best fight scenes in the manga and suddenly change animation styles to something so completely half assed I want to violently find the artist and kill them.
I hate yaoi with too girly uke ( ̄へ ̄)
do you guy have any pet peeves about manga. Mine is I can't stand glasses, I avoid any manga with the main character that has glasses. There are few expectations but it under five and I barred with it. Random I know, just really curious
