fwiw I'm glad I'm seeing more comments like yours on this website these days. I've been visiting Mangago off and on for years now and the "culture" in the comments used to be really different, I rarely saw people call out rape and anyone who did would get completely shouted down. For every "uhh this is pretty rapey, wtf" there would be like 10 "OMG I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PPL ARE CALLING THIS RAPE, IT'S OBVS NOT RAPE."
It was upsetting because the justifications seriously mirrored real-life rape apologia, a lot of "it's not rape because he secretly wanted it," "it's not rape because he likes the seme," "it's not rape if the seme is hot."
I don't mind if people are able to ignore a scene and enjoy the manga anyway, that's fine. But acknowledge it for what it is. Don't pretend it's not rape because you can't stand the idea that something you enjoy has problematic elements.
Lately I way more comments calling it out when a manga has a blatant rape scene. It's nice because you can see those comments and pass on reading it if you don't like that kind of manga. And also it gives me more faith that people here actually understand what rape is, before I was like "welp I guess this is where teenage manga fans go to learn how to victim blame" lol
Exactly! Tbh there are so many underage people reading here and I'm nobody to judge or tell them not to (because I was exposed to smut early too) but they need to know what is rape. All the non-verbal signs of saying 'no' means 'no'. If the rape is a part of the story and there are other sensible characters who oppose it and teach us what's right, that's great. But no, in yaoi everybody loves rape. It's sickening.
I'm glad you messaged here too. For a second I went crazy because I thought I was the only one who thought that was rape lol. Thanks again for replying :)
The author brings in rape and brushes it off as nothing and then enters a new guy (who I'm assuming must take the role of a love triangle and possibly a bad news) and then in turn makes the MC portray in a good light? I know this shit too well. People need to stop taking this lightly. Rape is a criminal offence. And even if it's a fictional story, it doesn't seem like the authors understand what they're writing about and how their work is inhumanly fetishized around here. Stop this shit. Great art gone to waste. Ugh.
