I didn't really hated Jeanette. She didn't matter to me but now she is having more screen time then athy . And the point you mentioned ... She kinda sus lol like something has to be up with her she can't be as innocent as she is portrayed. Then again ones innocence , oblivion and ignorance can bring harm to another so...

So basically Athanasia is in her third life. She's the original princess from the novel. Then she became the orphan and now she's in her third life again. In the comments I've read that Jeanette has become aware that Claudes brother just used her and casted some spell on athanasia to like, be reincarnated i guess? So Jeanette actually helped Athanasia after her death.
