oh i want to add some things!
- the villainess always has long wavy/curly red or blonde hair. it's not a big problem but it just makes them seem really flat. of course, that type of long hair is really pretty and appealing, but it just makes all of the webtoon villainesses i've ever seen the same.
- why do the male leads have little character development? usually they are either just the cold tyrant or prince. i know they break out of their shell later because they were hated by everyone or their father didn't want them to be the heir or some other familial issues and then they warm up to the girl, but...... uh...... i kind of want a changeup? it's always just:
"gosh that guy is so mean! i will never like him!" and then like a week later the protag is all over him bc he showed a tiny bit of affection. of course, a lot of people like those cold personalities. it's not wrong. but i've seen so much of it that i also kind of want to see a realistic male lead who has more dialogue than "..." "*glares*" "*tsundere things*"
(i also want to mention how they all have black or white hair. not necessarily a problem. just something i've noticed)
- sometimes the villainesses act more like the heroine than the actual heroine, which i find funny (though i've been finding more merciless(?) villainesses nowadays)
- i want to keep emphasizing how the villainesses are normalized with death and murder and war
- i also want to emphasize how the villainesses don't have a family or friend they miss. and they feel it's normal to pretend to be someones daughter when they're not (i dont find many protagonists who are worried over the fact they're acting as someones daughter)
- they also dont want to get home (but usually it's because they had a shitty life of being an office worker and died somehow, but it's better than dying in a european medieval setting, right?)
- i think it would be SUPER interesting to see an actual "villainess" so to speak to be transmigrated into one. i wonder how that would play out but that's just wishful thinking because it would just end up with the readers hating the protagonist lol
i have many things i want to see in webtoons, but it's just me having too high expectations for a romance webtoon. but the webtoons right now are fantastic!
(๑•ㅂ•)و✧
i thoroughly enjoy villainess transmigration webtoons and stories, but i always have several problems that seem to be a consistent pattern with these. i want to hear opinions on them as well
1. the true "heroine" is bland
- i've seen webtoons where the "heroine" (not the protagonist we are following but the heroine of the story that the protag has transmigrated into) is so bland and borish. they all have flat personalities and brown or black hair. i get it's to make the protagonist shine more, but can't we have a little changeup?
- i've also seen webtoons where the "heroine" is supposedly an evil mastermind who wants to bring doom to the villainess/protagonist, but it's so cliché in a way. it's not interesting. oh, it's a jealous girl who wants the male lead to herself. what's new?
2. there's no development on the villainess before being transmigrated
- it's not a big issue because the life led before becoming the villainess isn't the main focus of the story, but i want some background information, not random flashbacks that the readers can't relate to or feel sympathy for in the middle of the story
- or the villainess just has some... weird backstory about being an overworked office worker?? like why not something else? it's always an office worker lol
- i'm not saying there's no character development. i'm just saying we have little to no information about their previous life. they apparently don't have friends or family they don't want to go back to. (which is sooo awfully convenient) if you want to add those random flashbacks, at least make it tug at the heartstrings more
3. the transmigrated villainess is too perfect
- even if you are transmigrated into a villainess and still retain her memories in your new life, shouldn't you be making mistakes? get confused? be just a little.. i don't know..... CONCERNED? of course this doesn't apply to all, but among the more popular ones
- why are the villainesses so smart? of course, you need to be able to be smart to stay alive. but the instant they get transmigrated they come up with some a foolproof intelligent plan to survive when they were a simple office worker in their past life. like what the hell? shouldn't they be a little relatable?
- of course being too dumb is obviously annoying. but i wish the villainesses had some flaws. yes, i know they do, but most of their flaws seem to be that they are either dense as fuck or have a lot of people hate them because they are the villainess
- and does anyone... ANYONE.... realize they have no wifi? LOL- okay i understand this is a little random. but isn't it more realistic to be devastated over not having wifi or your phone in a medieval European setting (with possibly magic) where there's intense hierarchy and severe gender inequality and bad hygiene issues and war? like wow, that is totally normal when you came from a modern society!
that's kind if if. i may be forgetting some things though. but still!! it's a little frustrating to see these. however, it's not that big of a problem for me to drop a webtoon. it's just something i've seen a lot and am genuienly curious as to why that is
