I apologize for the length of my comment >->
This manga isn't just a light romantic dramatic one, that you gotta know every thoughts of its character, even if it so then it is easy to be guessed. There is action scenes include, hidden schemes that should be a mystery to be the plot of the manga, so I think sensei just put it into a fair proportion for readers can digest both, and the rest just use your imagination :).
And for addition, this is a hit manga and good selling, let say it should be prolonged and new scoops been made, the fans in euphoria, but everything should take it slow, so that the time in the manga didn't go so fast.
The slow progress did torture right??!!, well I think people love it tough, because this manga is still there for them (me too ^^). But compared to early chapter, it got slightly in its depth in the plot, so just enjoy it, every manga has a rights to be unique.
The vast majority of the manga is narrated by Takaba, so I have difficulty understanding why you would say we hardly see into his mind.
As for not clearly seeing into Asami's mind... well, that's a large part of his allure. Some of us like a mysterious man- however, it is my opinion that we've been given a generous amount of "glimpses" into Asami's emotions through the expressions Yamane-sensei draws on his face.
I've also been confused with the plot at times, but that is usually caused by different chapters being translated by so many different people/groups (some have done a better job than the publisher, but a few have been downright awful). Reading the published volumes clears up a lot of the confusion, but of course there are still nuances that simply can't be translated.
It could be that this manga is just not your cup of tea. It happens. There's a few BL manga out there that boggles me on the reason its popularity, but to each his own.
Actually I agree with most of what you're saying. The only point I'd like to add is that yes, Takaba is usually the narrator, we see a lot of his thoughts, but not enough or in the right way. I think that the mangaka focuses on the action more than the romance aspect. So it's hard for me to believe in the characters. It really is just my preference though. Thank you for your thoughts and time. :)
I know how popular this manga is, I recognize that many people love this manga and it is very successful. Keep in mind this is just my opinion. On your third point... As I've been saying, it didn't torture me? I didn't really feel anything. That's my dilemma with this manga. My heart didn't race during the love scenes nor during the action scenes. But that is really just me.
Now I see where you're coming from. VF is not a traditional romance where the reader is granted satisfaction by an eventual and clear declaration of love, but it is still a kind of romance; albeit on a very subtle and deeper level. The focus has to be on action to illustrate the conflict of their unconventional relationship- two men who are drawn to each other, but their clashing lifestyles make it challenging and at times, awkward for them.
For me, this is exactly the kind of BL manga I like to read. But as you said, it is all about preferences and fortunately for everyone there are many variations on this same theme, some of which do focus on romance and the emotional thoughts of the characters.
I believe the author takes a very Japanese approach by keeping things outwardly vague, but having the reader be observant and read the body language and behaviors of characters. Akihito made his feelings very clear in vol 6 when he sits on the kitchen floor. Akihito's inner conflict can be annoying, but he will not push Asami. I loved that the latest chapter showed that Asami hasn't had too much botox and can change his expression. This is not a straightforward manga - I thought Asami was a psychopath in Vol 1.
we lived the storyline like akihito does over time, asami torturing him, teased him, saved him, want to pocess him, don't want to leave his side, share his life with him, akihito lived all those moments and sensei made a very good story coz akihito can't know what asami want or think, it's like in real life, when other sensei write both side of the mains characters, they made us just like a viewers, sometimes even other charater like sudoh sensei doesn't show his thought, akihito find out about him when sudoh has speak his mind, do u understand me, i'm very sorry coz my english suck ! but i hope u have understand my opinion just a little, asami is the top of some organisation he is smart doen't share his feelings like here he is very worried that aki would leave him and don't understand what happened http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c043/3/ intil now we don't know why and how sakazaki change his mind , he was too scary and suddenly toutch aki. (sazaki the man aki did a blowjob) we will know as the story goes for me i like this manga, the thriller the suspens, the mysterious asami ! i hope one day sensei will show us a a little of asami past i'm very curious.
To be honest, I don't enjoy this manga as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, the artwork is some of the best I've ever seen and it's very consistent and clean. However the sex is...okay...I only started enjoying it around chapter 30, when it was sort of mutual. It might be because forced sex/slave or whatever doesn't get me all riled up, but it doesn't even turn me off, it's just boring. The plot is also very confusing and Akihito's doubts about the role he plays in Asami's life and in society is aggravating. I also don't feel very attached to the characters or story, we hardly see into Akihito's or Asami's mind. The only thing keeping me reading is the beautiful artwork and the off-chance that I get to glimpse some sort of human emotion from Asami. However I understand that many readers do enjoy these sorts of relationships, that's why this is so popular. This is just my own opinion. I encourage everyone to read it for themselves and make their own judgement. :)
