You're so damn right ! The problem is that people want a happy ending, and for many, a happy ending is when the 2 characters end up together regardless if the relationship is super toxic or not. A MC who ends up alone is not a bad or sad ending ! It would have been so much better if they parted ways, but as I said, people want a supposedly romance and are willing to forget or excuse all the abuses that happened as long as they get together.... (and I'm not talking about this yaoi only) ╮(￣▽￣||)╭

On the other side, their relationship would never work out, they're toxic together. They don't love each other they just want to feel loved by each other so they can go back to past where they thought everything was fine and dainty, when it wasn't. The uke hurt the seme intentionally or unintentionally, making him feel miserable enough for him to kill himself and the seme kidnapped the uke and exacted revenge on him. YOU DON'T do those things to the person you love, that's fucked up.
I think that it's better if both of them don't end up together, the uke should move on and go to therapy he has Stockholm syndrome and is convincing himself that if he gets back together with the seme he'll be happier.
Feeding his delusions won't get him anywhere, it'll just make him more miserable.
