I think in this case it was for the sake of the story but sometimes trauma or bad upbringings can result in suppressing emotions and things like that. A good example is probably someone like Todoroki from mha.

Okay, I know it's said multiple times that Satoru (along with his mom) can't express their emotions. So is it a mental disorder or is it just a gene? I'm asking for writing purposes and I have no idea, please help ;-;
